Vice Chancellor's Message

My Dear Alumni,

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has firmly established itself as a beacon of academic excellence, innovation, and achievement in the fields of academics, sports, and sciences. The University has been bestowed with the prestigious status of “University with Potential for Excellence” by the University Grants Commission (UGC), a recognition that speaks volumes about its commitment to quality education and research. Additionally, GNDU has earned the highest possible accreditation, an “A++” grade, as per the modified criteria of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). This distinction reflects the institution’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence and its continuous efforts to elevate the standards of higher education. More than twenty departments at the University have received substantial grants from various prestigious bodies, including UGC-SAP, DST-FIST, and PURSE, which have further bolstered its research capabilities and academic infrastructure. Over the years, GNDU has experienced phenomenal academic growth, earning widespread recognition for its exceptional contributions to higher education. The University’s status as a “University with Potential for Excellence” conferred by UGC reflects the transformative journey it has undergone, guided by its mission to provide quality education and impactful research.

The Alumni Association of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was initially founded in 2007 with the primary goal of fostering a strong, enduring relationship between the alumni and the University. The alumni of GNDU have made notable strides in a wide array of disciplines and have distinguished themselves through their dedication to their respective professions. Their achievements serve as a testament to the high standards of education and training imparted by the University. The expertise and knowledge of these accomplished alumni can play a pivotal role in the continued progress and development of GNDU. Their active involvement can help create a dynamic, thriving University community by contributing to the University’s growth and success. This association aims to contribute significantly to the University’s academic and research pursuits, leveraging the expertise and experiences of its alumni to drive further success. The primary objective of the Alumni Association is to enhance the interactions between the alumni, students, and faculty members. By providing forums and creating opportunities for engagement, the association facilitates the exchange of ideas, experiences, and valuable insights that benefit the University community as a whole. Through these interactions, alumni can share their professional experiences, offer guidance to students, and contribute to the academic and professional development of the next generation of graduates. In addition, alumni can play a vital role in assisting with placements, offering career advice, and providing mentorship to students as they embark on their professional journeys.

Beyond academic and professional support, the alumni also have the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of underprivileged students at the University. One of the ways in which alumni can make a lasting impact is by providing financial assistance in the form of scholarships for economically disadvantaged students. This support not only helps alleviate the financial burden on these students but also ensures that deserving individuals are not deprived of opportunities due to financial constraints. Additionally, alumni can contribute to the development of distinguished lecture series, research projects, and infrastructural improvements such as the construction of hostels, alumni guest houses, sports facilities, and extension activities. The Alumni Association also aims to promote social causes, such as supporting marginalized children and other underserved communities, thus extending the University’s commitment to social responsibility. By leveraging their resources and expertise, alumni can help foster an inclusive and socially responsible environment within the University.

I am confident that the office of the Dean of the Alumni Association will continue to engage with the alumni regularly, providing them with updates on the University’s academic progress and other key activities. This on-going communication will also encourage alumni to provide valuable feedback and suggestions, further enhancing the University’s growth and development. The collective wisdom and contributions of the alumni will undoubtedly continue to be a driving force in achieving academic excellence at Guru Nanak Dev University.

Message from Vice-President (Overseas)

It is a matter of great privilege to serve as Vice-President (Overseas) of the Alumni Association Guru Nanak Dev University (AAGNDU) for the second term. While it is an immense pleasure to serve our Alma Mater, it also brings responsibility and commitment to contribute towards its progress. Having established only in 1969, the University has excelled in academics, research and sports, and has been recognized as an institute of excellence by the national accreditation agency of India. The University has also set up international collaborations and signed MOUs with a number of reputed universities and institutes.

AAGNDU first created in 2007, has grown world-wide by establishing Alumni Chapters in Australia, Canada, UK and USA. Many of the alumni have achieved outstanding success in their career and have settled all over the globe; a number of them being entrepreneurs and prominent professionals in academics and in various industries of repute. The Association is largely aimed at facilitating interactions between the university alumni, faculty and students to advance the academic and research environment.  It encourages the alumni to share their knowledge and experience with students by participating in interactive sessions to help students progress in their career paths and secure placements.

The University is committed to providing equal opportunities, quality education and healthy campus environment to all the students irrespective of their financial difficulties, which requires additional funding resources. It should be our endeavour to support our Alma Mater for this worthy cause. It is my earnest appeal to all the alumni to work together with the University in providing scholarships to the underprivileged students, creating research facilities, and developing infrastructure for the overall growth of the university. All contributions, big or small, are important and can play a significant role in supporting the career goals of several students. We are currently accepting donations in Indian currency only, but the University is actively pursuing to have approval from the Government of India to receive foreign currency donations.

If you would like to start a lecture series, make a contribution to the university, or have any other questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me.

Message from Vice-President

I congratulate the students and faculty for ensuring highest standards in the area of academics and co-curricular activities. My special appreciations to the worthy leadership of our Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu under whose guidance and command the University has achieved new heights and has been conferred the status of “University with Potential for Excellence” by UGC. The University has also been accredited at “A++” grade by the NAAC.

As a proud alumnus of the University, I have always tried my best to see this University in the top ranks in the list of universities at global level. My endeavours would be to connect the academics with the governance so that human resource produced by this University can contribute in nation building in true sense. In the capacity of “First Vice-President” of the executive Council of AAGNDU, my vision is to equip the teachers and the students of the University with core-competencies so that most of the governmental project-works and researches could be carried out at university-level.

We are thankful to our Dean Alumni Prof. (Dr.) Atul Khanna who has been doing tireless efforts in coordinating the activities of the AAGNDU. With my Overseas colleague Dr. Vijay Kumar Babbar, we seek valuable guidance, support and suggestions from our earnest members of alumni, esteemed teachers and hardworking students so that we could be able to shape-up our endeavours in attaining truthful results.
