Dr. Babbar was a student in the first batch of M.Sc. (Physics) Pass Course at the Physics Department, GNDU from 1981 to 1983. He obtained his Ph.D. in magnetic ceramics from IIT Delhi in 1989. He worked at a number of institutes in India: As Scientist at Defence Laboratory (DRDO), Jodhpur, and as faculty at Thapar University, Patiala, and Guru Nanak Dev University before immigrating to Canada in 2001. In Canada, Dr. Babbar worked on a number of industrial research projects funded by Department of Transportation, US, and Canadian Forces, at Queen’s University and Royal Military College of Canada, on development of electromagnetic non-destructive techniques for inspection and maintenance of oil and gas pipelines, defence aircrafts, and nuclear submarines. For the last 5 years, Dr. Babbar has been working as a Senior Research Engineer at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories on design and development of electromagnetic inspection tools and techniques for inspection and maintenance of steam generators in nuclear reactors. Dr. Babbar is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario. He has expertise in magnetic materials, neutron diffraction, magnetic flux leakage, eddy current and pulsed eddy current techniques, and finite element modelling. He has authored two undergraduate books and produced more than 80 research articles and technical reports. A number of these reports are restricted publications.
